Narrow aisle forklifts
Commonly utilized within warehouse operations is the Narrow Aisle Forklift. These types of forklifts are important machines within the industry since their small size and extreme maneuverability enable warehouses to utilize space to maximum storing capacity. They could easily negotiate aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, while typical lift trucks need 3.4 meters of aisle width, at least.
The two types are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The first require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, while the latter could function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of a narrow aisle forklift consists of forks positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This particular design feature is the key to their suitability for limited spaces.
Several very narrow aisle forklifts come with optical or wire guidance systems that make sure that the forklift moves in a straight line down the aisle, that leaves the operator free to focus on load placement and picking.
These kinds of lifts are equipped with cushion tires made from solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on concrete floors and paved, smooth surfaces. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors suited for use within indoor environments. Propane-powered versions are available as well.
