Types of Boom Lifts or Construction Lifts
A boom lift is a piece of machine which enables workers to perform jobs without having to construct a scaffolding. They are used to do maintenance work, to work on elevated structures and are common equipment found in factory and warehouse environment also.
Typically, construction lifts offer powered and wheeled bases which are capable of driving to the work place and have a platform on them that is responsible for lifting personnel. There are many different types of lifts and every one is suitable to various tasks and settings.
Bucket Trucks
Cherry pickers or bucket trucks, are built with a long boom which has a bucket attached at the end. This bucket area is where an employee may stand. Normally, bucket trucks are used by landscapers and by utility workers. Landscapers normally utilize these machines to prune trees.
Bucket trucks are equipped with a boom assembly which is mounted on a regular truck, and this means these lifts can travel on roads at regular traffic speeds. This mobility greatly increases the area they can effectively service. This is especially vital for power companies. Like for instance, a lot of these companies utilize cherry pickers to lift employees up so they can work on and reach transmission lines. The buckets need to be regularly inspected and correctly insulated as they are working close to possible shock hazards.
Articulated boom lifts are also called "knuckle lifts", and have a work platform that is mounted on an arm which could bend so as to reach around obstacles. The base of the lift contains a turntable and can turn the lift in a full circle. The base of the lift is mounted on wheels also for extra mobility.
Articulated boom lifts are used for landscaping projects and are useful for maintenance work on already-completed projects that do not need easy access to the area directly underneath the jobsite. These lifts could be used to repair piping or exterior electrical work, as well as difficult to clean areas. Normally knuckle lifts are driven by the worker in the platform with the boom extended.
