Parts of a Tower Crane
Tower cranes enable the construction industry to build several wonderful structures. These cranes have been utilized to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes offer the means to transport and lift building parts, supplies and tools around a construction location. There are various parts that assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction machines.

Base
The tower crane base is usually made from a steel unit. The base of the unit attaches to a custom pad made of concrete. This type of set-up provides the structure with stability. Overall, the construction has to be well engineered and constructed in order to operate at optimum safety.

Mast
The mast of the tower crane provides height to the machine. The mast is made of connected steel parts. The amount of parts determines the crane's height. Normally, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding further sections as the building process goes on. This way the height of the crane can be specified, ensuring it has sufficient height to perform the needed work safely and efficiently.

Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is situated over the mast. This unit houses the machinery and the motor that enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machinery that allows the mast to grow. The top climber is situated just underneath the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber enable the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.

Boom
The term "boom", refers to the working arm of a tower crane. The boom is made up of separate steel parts that are attached together, extending out from the top of the slewing unit and parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the base which can extend the length of the boom. This trolley holds the hoisting device.
