History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was initially founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. During the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
