Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts that describe the use and fuel option of every kind of forklift. Certification is required for each and every class of forklift which the operator will be utilizing.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either cushion tires or pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires are recommended in dry conditions for outdoor use. The cushion tired models are designed for indoor, smooth surfaces. These are electrically powered vehicles which make use of industrial batteries, that make them suitable in closed locations where air quality is a problem. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units normally used everywhere from storage facility to the loading dock.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This particular forklift is recommended for environments where narrow aisles need to be negotiated. They are efficient at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal where speed is required and for small spaces.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These are battery-powered and hand-controlled models. Utilizing a steering tiller, the operator can control the lift while standing in front of the truck. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways in order to steer the vehicle. The units which have smaller capacity use industrial batteries.
